Multicultural Student Services Coordinating Team (MSSCT)
Charge
The Multicultural Student Services Coordinating Team’s mission is to work collaboratively to positively impact recruitment, persistence, retention, and graduation of students of color at Iowa State University.
MSSCT is coordinated by the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs (MSA), a department in the Dean of Students Office and Division of the Vice President for Student Affairs.
MSSCT shall have the following standing sub-committees:
- Academic Review Committee: offers updates on academic policies and impact on ISU students of color
- Professional Development Committee: helps develop the skills sets of the MSSCT members to better serve ISU students of color
- University Relations Committee: increases visibility of MSSCT as a standing committee in support of the ISU strategic goals
Activity
In the past, the committee has successfully:
- Coordinated and implemented the new Multicultural Learning Community open to all 1st year students.
- Incorporated the Guaranteed 4.0 Learning System into various courses and curricula including several University Studies courses and one LAS course.
- Offered feedback and guidance in the development of the new Academic Probation Policy regarding its impact on students of color at ISU.
- Collaborated with the Academic Success Center in adopting the 4.0 learning System for all students on Academic Probation and in Psych 130/131 courses.
- Assisted in the recruitment of over 200 tuition MVP and Carver scholarship recipients.
- Collaborated with Admissions in developing the ISU Multicultural Visit Day event in fall and spring.
- Collaborated with Institutional Research to develop continuous reports on the recruitment, persistence, and retention status of students of color at ISU.
- Developed university wide academic, financial, career and leadership workshops for students.
